In 2014 the Pam Ortiz Band and the gospel trio, Sombarkin, collaborated to present a musical showcase of songs from a forthcoming musical, Red Devil Moon. The show was the brain child of our friend and colleague, Robert Earl Price. He wrote the book for the musical. Pam wrote the music and lyrics. The concert version debuted at the Garfield Center for the Performing Arts at the Prince Theatre in Chestertown Maryland in November of that year. Robert Earl served as our narrator. We continued to present the concert version many times over the next several years, including a two-week stint at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2016. The final performances were held just before COVID in January and February 2020 in Easton, Maryland and in Cape Charles, Virginia.
Maybe someday we will all be in the audience to see Red Devil Moon produced as theatre, featuring Robert Earl’s imaginative book, and we’ll watch as his characters come alive.
Today, we are posting the full video (See the Video page) of the 2014 debut concert in his memory. Robert Earl Price passed away in April 2025. We miss his imagery, his vision, his radical edge, and his sonorous voice. We also offer this in memory of our colleague, Tom Anthony, the bassist in all our shows, who we lost in September 2024. Here’s to you Robert Earl & Tom!
